Comments on Ziggy's Facebook post of R. Kelly taking the stage at the nightclub Sunday night, January 20, 2013

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — R&B star R. Kelly was scheduled to perform at Ziggy’s nightclub in Winston-Salem Sunday night, but his failed performance had some fans ticked off.

The Winston-Salem Journal reported that tickets to the show sold for $35 to $55. The event was billed as “An Intimate Birthday Celebration.”

Spectators said Kelly went on stage late, smoking a cigar and drinking alcohol and then performed only part of one song.

Fans reacted with outrage on social media.

“That was so unprofessional for him,” Lisa Edwards wrote in the comment section of a photo Ziggy’s posted of Kelly on stage.

“I really paid to watch R. Kelly drink and smoke his cigar,” Deshawna Sharp wrote on Ziggy’s Face-book page. Those comments were later deleted.

Local attorney Mike Silver said that when he complained to Ziggy’s staff, he was told the promotional material said that Kelly would appear but did not say that he was performing.

“I think they exploited R. Kelly fans and people who like that genre of music,” Silver said, according to the Journal. “I’ve been to Ziggy’s multiple times, and when have they ever pulled this, ‘He’s appearing not performing’? I will never support them if that’s what they’re going to do.”
