Life sentence to stand for Mebane man convicted of killing daughter

RALEIGH, N.C. — A Mebane man found guilty in 2010 of shooting his pregnant wife and killing her unborn daughter will not have his first-degree murder conviction overturned, according to the Greensboro News & Record.

The paper reported on Tuesday that the N.C. Court of Appeals stands by its judgment against Robert Thompson Broom in October 2010 in Alamance County Superior Court.

He was sentenced to life without parole. Prosecutors said Broom wanted his wife Danna Broom to get an abortion and she refused to get one.

Broom reportedly left during a conversation with his wife and put his arms around her and shot her with a .45-caliber hollow point bullet when he returned.
