GREENSBORO, N.C. — Mary Ann Holder wrote two checks to her daughter totaling $10,600 around the time she killed five children including her two teenage sons, according to the Greensboro News & Record.

The paper reported that the checks were made public in court records released recently as Mary Ann Holder’s $13,310 estate was settled in Guilford County.

Holder also reportedly wrote a $10,000 check to the wife of her former boyfriend on the day before the killings.

Holder’s ex-husband said she did not have the money to cover the checks. It remains uncertain why she killed five children.

Holder shot and killed Zach and Dylan Smith, Ricky and Hannahleigh Suttles and Makayla Woods on Nov. 20, 2011 in Pleasant Garden before taking her own life.
