FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- A Fayetteville soldier turned a brief return home from Afghanistan into the surprise of his three-year-old son's life by donning a superhero costume.

WTVD reports Noah Reynolds was happily surprised when he saw Spider-Man jump into the backyard of his family's home, but the excitement got even better when the hero removed his mask to reveal himself as the boy's father, Sgt. Jason Reynolds.

"Daddy, you surprised me," Noah said during the warm embrace.

Jason Reynolds was home on emergency leave for the birth of his daughter, who was delivered on Dec. 27.

"I wanted to do something a little bit more special for him because of the newborn in the house," he told WTVD. "I want to make sure he still understands he's just as important as she is."

While he did not make it home in time to witness his daughter's birth, he was still able to spend a week with his family before going back overseas.

"I'm pretty sure he actually believes I dress up as Spider-Man to go fight the bad guys now," he said.
