Caswell County man arrested in relative’s stabbing death

PROVIDENCE, N.C. — A Caswell County man has been arrested in connection with the stabbing death of a relative he lived with, authorities say. 

According to deputies, 64-year-old Richard D. Underwood was found dead Thursday when officers responded to a report of a stabbing at his home at 32 Gatewood Road. 

Dennis Underwood, 31, of the same address, was arrested on a charge of first-degree murder in connection with the victim’s death, deputies said. 

Deputies say they are still working to determine a motive.  They have classified the incident as a homicide. 

The suspect is currently being held without bond in the Caswell County Detention Center. 

His first court appearance is slated for Monday. 

The victim’s body has been taken to the Medical Examiner’s Office in Chapel Hill for an autopsy.
