CHALET BEACH, Man. – Officials say a father and daughter on an ice fishing trip in Manitoba managed to escape after the truck the two were in broke through the ice.

The Canadian Press reported that the incident occurred on frigid Lake Winnipeg in the Matlock area, near Chalet Beach.

Authorities say they were inside the truck when the ice beneath broke up.

Officials say the father called police on a phone from home to let officers know what happened.

Authorities are warning fisherman that ice can be thinner in some areas than in others.
