WENDELL, N.C. (AP) — Johnston County authorities say a 15-year-old boy is dead after a gun accidentally went off, and the gun owner is in jail.

Sheriff spokeswoman Tammy Amaon says Robert Furey was showing the teen a gun at his home in Wendell about 9:30 p.m. Friday went it off and killed him. The boy’s name has not been released.

Furey is charged with voluntary manslaughter.

Authorities also have not released the make of the gun or where the boy was shot.
