Deputies: Lexington man arrested after heroin found in car

DAVIDSON COUNTY, N.C. — Deputies say they arrested a man after finding heroin in his car during a traffic stop Friday in Davidson County.

William Scott Shannon, 43, of Lexington, allegedly had four packages containing about one and one half grams of powder heroin in an opened case of beer inside his 1990 Maza Miata.

Officials say he was stopped around 9 p.m. for following a vehicle too closely. They say they smelled alcohol while talking to him and later received consent to search his car.

Shannon was charged with possession with the intent to sell and deliver heroin, felony maintain a vehicle to store a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia. 

Authorities say he received a $10,000 secured bond and has court planned for Jan. 29.
