WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Winston-Salem police say a woman was speeding before she crashed her car into a utility pole and died.

Police say Tiana Lazette Pope, 27, of Kernersville, died at the scene of the single-vehicle wreck, which was reported shortly before 2:45 a.m. Wednesday in the 500 block of Oak Summit Road.

The 2010 Chevrolet Aveo LT driven by Pope was found to have collided with a utility pole after it traveled off the right side of the road, police said.

Police said speed was a contributing factor in the crash.

The investigation is ongoing.
