GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Officials said two men are dead after a wreck Saturday morning in Guilford County.

Authorities said Matthew Jacob Straughn of Pleasant Garden was driving a pickup truck south of Greensboro when he drove off the road early Saturday.

The 20-year-old Straughn tried to swerve back onto the road, crossed the center line and struck a car driving northbound on Pleasant Garden Road, causing his vehicle to overturn, according to the North Carolina Highway Patrol.

Both Straughn and passenger Casey Lee Straughan of Julian were killed. The two men were not related, the patrol said.

It has not been determined whether there was alcohol involved. The driver of the second vehicle, whose name has not been released, was injured and transported from the scene.

Trooper Skinner said the vehicle was reported traveling 60 miles per hour on a 45 mph speed limit.

Friends of the victims gathered for a candlelight vigil Sunday night in Julian. People who knew them said they will be missed greatly.

"Go the speed limit. Just be very cautious not only of other drivers but what's around you when your driving," said friend Kaleb Walker.

Funeral arrangements for Matthew Straughn take place at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Pleasant Garden Baptist Church.

Casey Lee Straughan's funeral arrangements take place at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Brick Reform United Church of Christ.
