WINSTON SALEM, N.C.-- Constance Hall's family is getting ready to celebrate her 49th birthday Thursday, but this won't be your usual birthday celebration.

Constance was killed last year, and her family is turning her birthday into a vigil for healing.

Winston-Salem police say Hall was last seen leaving her home on Apple Street on October 28 2011.

According to police, she told her father that she would be back in a minute, however, Hall never came back.

Hall was found stabbed to death two miles away from her home at the Plaza Apartments Complex on Manly Street, according to Winston-Salem Homicide Detective Greg Dorn.

"Whoever did this knew Constance, this was up close and personal," Dorn said.

Dorn says there have been very few leads, and that many of the theories as to what may have happened to Hall, however, none of these have panned out.

"But it's one of those cases that it's going to take someone in the community to step forward and help us out with it," Dorn said.

Hall's sister April is still determined to find her sister's killer.

She's passing out fliers with Constance's picture on it around the community, hoping it will jog somebody's memory as to what happened last year.

"We need justice somebody knows something, somebody heard something," Hall said.

A vigil for Constance will be held in the 900 block of Manly Street in Winston-Salem at 5:00 p.m. Thursday.
