ELON, N.C. — An 18-year-old woman was arrested Sunday after she reportedly carried a gun onto the campus of Elon University.

According to the Burlington Times-News, Alexis Gray of Holland, Pa., was arrested Sunday on campus.

University administrators sent an email to students notifying them of the arrest, the Times-News reports.

According to the paper, the email indicated police were waiting for Gray around noon when she was arrested at the Danieley Center.

Campus authorities were alerted of the situation by her former boyfriend, who is a student, the paper reports.  Administrators say the boyfriend received a phone call from the suspect’s parents, who said “she was headed to campus and they were concerned about her welfare,” according to the paper.

The Times-News reports Gray is charged with possession of a firearm on campus, but that no charges had been filed in the Alamance County Magistrate’s Office as of 9 p.m. Sunday.

Other charges are reportedly pending.

“In an abundance of caution, I am notifying you about the facts in this case,” Smith Jackson, Elon’s dean of students, said in the email, according to the Times-News.

No injuries were reported.
