Man shot and killed by deputy outside NC Waffle House

KINSTON, N.C. — Officials said a man was shot and killed by an off-duty deputy Sunday morning outside a Waffle House in Kinston.

Kinston.com reported that 26-year-old William C. “Billy” Gibbs III was shot by an officer with the Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office during a brawl at the restaurant’s parking lot around 3 a.m.

The officer who shot Gibbs is reportedly being investigated. He was reportedly serving in an off-duty security work situation.

The deputy has not been identified. Other details were not released.
