MARSHALL, N.C. (AP) — Officials say 48 sixth-graders and a driver were hurt after three Madison County school activity buses and a pickup truck were involved in a collision.

The Asheville Citizen-Times reports Wednesday’s wreck occurred near the Madison campus of Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College.

The injured were transported to area hospitals. The N.C. Highway Patrol said none of the injuries appeared to be life-threatening.

According to the patrol, a motorist traveling south on U.S. 25-70 stopped to turn into the A-B Tech parking lot. Two buses behind the truck stopped, but a third bus didn’t and slammed into the second one. The second bus sideswiped the first bus, and the third bus crossed the centerline, collided with the pickup, then rolled down a hill and into the A-B Tech building.
