RANDOLPH COUNTY, N.C. — Officials said that Randolph Telephone plans to move many of their customers to a new telephone switch starting at 12 a.m. Tuesday.

Authorities said the switch will last for about six hours and will affect customer’s abilities to dial 911 while the incident takes place.

Cell phone service to 911 will not be impacted by the outage and all services are expected to be completely restored by 6 a.m. Tuesday, officials said.

Officials said most local fire departments will be staffed if a citizen is unable to contact 911 by telephone during the outage.
