HIGH POINT, N.C. — St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church bestowed blessings on pet animals Sunday afternoon in High Point.

“Blessing of the Animals” took place at 3:30 p.m. at the church’s location at 303 Eastchester Drive.

The Rev. Ken Kroohs said the event is a traditional way to celebrate St. Francis of Assisi who is known for his love for all of “God’s creations.”

The short service was led by Kroohs and Julie Goodin, who is the area chaplain for the Franciscan order.

Organizers said each animal was individually blessed. Event officials said dogs and cats are the most common animals, but owners have brought everything from birds to snakes in previous years.
