Officials: NC inmate serving murder sentences escapes

TILLERY, N.C. — Authorities are looking for a North Carolina inmate serving three consecutive life sentences for murder who went missing Sunday.

Officials said James Ladd escaped while working outside Tillery Correctional Center in Halifax County.

Authorities said he had been operating a tractor on the prison farm Sunday morning and the vehicle was found abandoned on the farm just before 12 p.m.

Officials said the 51-year-old inmate was serving three consecutive life sentences in connection with robbery and shooting deaths of two men on a Yadkin County farm in 1981.
