GREENSBORO, N.C. — Lincoln Financial Group has laid off 130 workers, 30 of whom were employed in Greensboro.

Michael Arcaro, a spokesman with the company, said the employees who are being let go were notified Thursday.  Severance packages are being offered, he added.

There was no specific division or type of position targeted in the layoffs.

Arcaro said the number of workers laid off represents 1.5 percent of the company’s total workforce. He cited “efficiency” and “responsibility to shareholders” as reason for the layoffs.

Arcaro released the following statement:

“Recent efforts to enhance the strategic design of our organization resulted in the elimination of about 130 jobs spread across our different office locations. The number of employees impacted represented approximately 1.5% of our entire workforce, and we are providing severance packages and outplacement services to the staff that were affected by these changes. We remain committed to having a presence in and supporting the communities in which we operate, and implementing these changes instead reflects a constant focus on refining the way we do business.”
