HAMPTON, Va. – A 2-year-old boy is dead after officials said he accidentally shot himself in the head with a gun Monday night in Hampton.

Police said the boy found the gun in an upstairs bedroom closet. They said the boy’s mother and two siblings – a 4-year-old and a 1-year-old – were home at the time of the shooting.

Authorities said the identity of the victim is being withheld until the family is notified.

Police said they are still investigating the shooting, which happened in the 100 block of Flinton Drive.
