DAVIE, Fla. — Miami Dolphins wide receiver Chad Johnson was arrested Saturday night at his Florida home after allegedly head-butting his newlywed wife, authorities said.

The ordeal started when Johnson’s wife found a receipt for condoms in the car while they were on their way home from dinner, Davie police Capt. Dale Engle said.

An argument ensued and by the time they got to their home in Davie, Johnson had allegedly head-butted his wife, according to Engle.

But Johnson said his wife leaned toward him and the two butted heads, the police captain said.

Johnson cannot be granted bond until he appears before a judge, meaning he will most likely spend the night in jail, Davie authorities said, according to CNN affiliate WPLG.

Johnson married Evelyn Lozada, a cast member on the VH1 reality TV show “Basketball Wives,” last month.

The football player was known as Chad Ochocinco — a Spanish take on his jersey number, 85 — before his marriage last month.
