BURLINGTON, N.C. — A 17-year-old is charged with driving while impaired after police said he hit another vehicle and fled the scene Monday in Burlington.
According to police, Cody Carter of Snow Camp was driving a 1999 Dodge Durango west on Roger Street around 4:45 p.m. when he struck a Dodge Caliber in the intersection at Sellars Mill Road.
The Caliber, which was driven by 36-year-old Tiffany Graves, was headed north on Sellars Mill Road, police said.
Due to the collision, Graves was trapped in her vehicle until rescuers were able to extract her. She was taken to Alamance Regional Medical Center where she was treated for non-life threatening injuries.
Police said Carter fled the scene, but he was found “a short distance away” and taken into custody.
Carter is charged with driving while impaired, hit-and-run causing personal injury, driving without a license and driving with an open container of alcohol. He was taken to the Alamance County Jail, where police said he was awaiting bond or a court appearance.
