Man arrested in attempted armed robbery in Burlington

BURLINGTON, N.C. — A suspect has been arrested in connection with an assault and attempted armed robbery that happened last week in Burlington.

Christopher Owen Clapp, 22, was arrested Monday afternoon in connection with the incident, which happened in a parking lot in the 700 block of Rauhut Street on Aug. 2. 

The victim told police the suspect confronted him shortly before 11:30 p.m., pulled out a handgun and demanded money.  The suspect struck the victim with the butt of the gun during the confrontation, police said. 

Clapp is charged with attempted armed robbery, assault with a deadly weapon, and injury to personal property.  He was jailed in Alamance County under a $100,000 secured bond.
