ASHEBORO, N.C. -- Sgt. First Class James Medina of Asheboro is home -- and he got quite a surprise at the airport from his wife, Brooke, and her three kids, Janey, Eli, and Lucy.

Medina is a member of the 3rd Striker Brigade Army Combat Team. He left his family eight months ago to fight on the front lines in Afghanistan.

"Going to another country to see how things are over there as a whole is mind boggling... I thank God for everything," he said.

Medina has to go back to Afghanistan in 15 days, but for now it's a living reunion with those who love him the most.

"I'm proud of my husband.  He's my hero," said his wife.

The Medinas also plan to celebrate their tenth wedding anniversary while he is home. His tour of duty ends in three months.
