Wilkesboro man faces second-degree murder charge

TAYLORSVILLE, N.C. — A Wilkesboro man has been charged with murder after three people were shot in Alexander County early Saturday.

Deputies were called to Steve Watts Drive in Taylorsville around 2:00 a.m.

Upon arrival, officers discovered one person had been killed and two others had been shot. The two shooting victims were taken to the hospital.

The victims’ names have not been released.

Mark Anthony McWhorter Jr., 28, of Wilkesboro, was arrested by police. He is charged with one count of second-degree murder. 

Other charges could be filed.

McWhorter was placed under an $800,000 secured bond. His first court appearance is Monday in Taylorsville.
