PARKTON, N.C. — The State Bureau of Investigation is looking into the death of a man who authorities say was shot with a stun gun after he attacked several people.

Robeson County deputies say someone called 911 Friday morning and said the man was assaulting people at a store on U.S. Highway 301 in Parkton.

When officers arrived, authorities say the man attacked them and tried to steal a patrol car. Deputies say he was shot once with the stun gun, but it seemed to have no effect.

Investigators say the man kept attacking officers, so he was shot a second time with the stun gun. The man kept fighting with deputies for a short time, then collapsed.

Authorities say the officers involved were placed on leave while the SBI investigates.
