MEBANE, N.C.- Storms ripped through parts of the Piedmont and left a big mess Saturday morning in Mebane.   Downed trees, dangling power lines, and even cars and homes were no match for this storm.  It came through quick but this storm was a strong one and some homeowners have the proof of its power.
It was a close call for Doug Fitzpatrick. “So I was standing right there and basically I just jumped through this door and then all that stuff came crashing down right behind me,” explains Fitzpatrick.  A tree smashed right through his sunroom and destroyed it.  Fitzpatrick recently finished renovations on his home on East Ashland Drive. “We had just spent a bunch of money remodeling our dining room and of course that’s the part of the house that’s the most damaged on the inside.”

Dan Jones’s lives on the same street.  His home was safe, but not his son’s car parked in the driveway.  “Didn’t know what was going on, so decided I better get here and this is what I found when I got home,” says Jones.  A power pole crashed through his son’s car.

This area in Mebane has been hit before.  “We’ve been very fortunate.   The neighborhood has never been hit like this,” explains Jones.

Two homeowners are thankful for two things: that no one was hurt and insurance.  “Insurance is a wonderful thing,” says Fitzpatrick.
