HIGH POINT, N.C. – It's no secret North Carolina has its share of severe weather during the summer, but insurance agents say many aren't ready for Mother Nature's fury.

Dan Loggins with State Farm Insurance in High Point stressed -- homeowners should know what’s covered and what's not -- in the case of severe weather.

Loggins said the number of storm claims has increased significantly over the last decade due to storms.

"It's sudden, and a lot rain comes with them, Loggins said.

Loggins said that homeowners who have regular maintenance completed on their home can save money and a lot of heartache.

"Homeowners need to make sure... gutters are cleaned out, the roof should be in good shape,"said Loggins. " A lot of people have roofs that are worn and don't even know it."

Loggins said rental property owners should also check their policies as well to make sure they are covered as well.
