Gaston Gazette gets new publisher

GASTONIA, N.C. (AP) — A Florida newspaper executive has been named as the new publisher of the Gaston Gazette.

The Gaston Gazette reported that Rick Martin has been named to the post as the newspaper’s new owner, Halifax Media Group, reorganizes its management structure.

Martin replaces Julie Moreno, who has served as Gazette publisher for the past two years.

Martin has been the publisher of the Panama City, Fla., News Herald. He served as regional vice president for the Florida Region of Freedom Newspapers, the Gazette’s previous owners.

Martin said he is excited about becoming regional publisher for Halifax’s newspapers in Gastonia, Shelby, Burlington, Havelock, Hendersonville, Jacksonville, Kinston, Lexington, New Bern, Surf City and Wilmington, as well as Spartanburg, S.C.
