HICKORY, N.C. — Investigators said a Hickory man shot and killed his brother outside the home they shared after an argument.

Catawba County deputies said 54-year-old Billy Seagle then went back inside Friday night and called 911, saying he thought his brother was going to his car to get a gun.

But the brothers’ mother told the Hickory Daily Record that she thinks 53-year-old Kenneth Seagle was killed because he was leaving to get arrest warrants signed against his brother to force him to leave the home they shared.

Shirley Garrett says her older son took a prescription anti-anxiety medicine, and when he combined that with alcohol, he became unstable.

Billy Seagle is awaiting a bond hearing at the Catawba County jail. It wasn’t clear if he had a lawyer.
