Deputies: Randleman man arrested after shooting nephew

RANDLEMAN, N.C. — Randolph County deputies arrested a man suspected of shooting his nephew on Monday.

Deputies arrested and charged Michael Anthony Dotson of 101 River Park Drive, with felony assault with a deadly weapon and possession of a firearm by a felon.

According to deputies, at about 10:30 p.m., Dotson arrived at his home and approached family members who were gathered around a picnic at his address.

After a short time, Dotson pointed a gun his nephew, Christopher Michael Lawing, and shot him in the neck.

Deputies and ems crews arrived on the scene at about 11:20 p.m., and transported Lawing to an area trauma center for treatment. His condition is unknown.

No other injuries were reported.

Dotson is being held in the Randolph County Jail under a $250,000 bond.
