MONTGOMERY COUNTY, N.C. -- Southern piedmont peach growers are seeing the benefits of a warm winter followed by a wet spring.

Barbara Johnson with Johnson's Peaches in Montgomery County says they could be looking at one of their best seasons.

"We had a very nice season so far, peaches have been beautiful all of the way," said Johnson.

The peaches look great and they are coming in about one to two weeks early.

Nearly 75 percent of the peaches are sold at the Johnson's roadside market while the rest are sold at farmers markets in Greensboro and Raleigh or shipped to local grocery stores.

Peach growers will celebrate their season at the Piedmont Triad Farmers Market on Friday and at the Greensboro Farmers Curb Market on Saturday. The North Carolina Peach Festival in Candor is also on Saturday.
