ARCHER LODGE, N.C. — A 15-month-old girl drowned after she reportedly fell in a backyard swimming pool in Johnston County.

Rescuers were called to the home on Applewhite Road around 2:30 p.m. Monday after a person called 911 saying the girl had been found in the pool and was not responsive.

Johnston County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Tammy Amaon said paramedics performed CPR and took the girl to WakeMed hospital in Raleigh, where she died about two hours later.

The girl’s name was not released.

As a standard procedure of the sheriff’s office, the death is under investigation.
