NEW YORK — New York City police say they’ve made an arrest in the rape of a North Carolina tourist at a Bronx hotel.

Police said Friday that Ivan Jones of the Bronx faces charges of rape, robbery, strangulation and assault. The name of his attorney was not immediately known.

The 33-year-old victim told police she had a brief conversation with the suspect on the subway in Manhattan early Wednesday. Then she got off the train in the Bronx and went to her hotel room.

She said there was a knock on her door around 4 a.m. When she opened the door, the suspect pushed his way into the room and attacked her.

The New York Times reported the crime occurred at a Howard Johnson Express Inn that’s listed on a number of online travel sites. Its attorney said the hotel’s owner and employees are cooperating with the investigation. Security video has been turned over to police.
