Union Co. man’s legs amputated by train

UNION COUNTY, N.C. — A Union County man is being treated for life-threatening injuries after his legs were amputated by a train Sunday morning.

Union County emergency crews responded to the North Elizabeth Street crossing early Sunday. The man was airlifted to Carolinas Medical Center with severe injuries.

Officials did not say why the man was on the tracks.

The Enquirer Journal reported the man was alive but unconscious.

Police have not released the victim’s name.
