Storms cause power outages, flooding across Piedmont
PIEDMONT-TRIAD — Scattered thunderstorms brought damaging winds and rains to the area resulting in flash flooding, downed trees, and power outages on Monday.
In Greensboro, flash flooding caused closures on busy roads and the interstate as Emergency Management crews assisted stranded drivers.
Police were forced to close multiple intersections between W. Wendover Avenue between S. Holden Road and Bridford Parkway and S. Elm-Eugene Street at I-85 due to flooding.
Three lanes on I-40 westbound near Gallimore Dairy Road were closed due to the drainage systems backing up.
Police reported that all roads previously closed due to flooding were reopened to traffic as of 12:30 a.m. on Tuesday.
In Alamance County, deputies reported numerous accidents on I-40/85 and multiple trees down throughout the county.
Randolph County deputies reported minor problems, caused by fallen trees. All roads were clear throughout the night.
Duke Energy reported numerous power outages. As many as 5,790 residents Guilford County, and more than 100 residents in Alamance County were without power as of 12:45 a.m. on Tuesday.
