STATESVILLE, N.C. — Police are looking for a man accused of trying to use candy to lure a child into his car Thursday afternoon in Statesville.

Police said a Dodge Magnum stopped beside a house in the 1300 block of Reid Street around 3 p.m. and left after being parked for about five minutes.

The same car returned about two hours later and the driver tried luring a child away with promises of candy, police said.  The suspect immediately fled west on Reid Street after seeing a parent, police said.  The child did not approach the car, police said.

The suspect is only described as a white male with short, possibly brown or black hair.
