ELKIN, N.C. --  A congregation is cleaning up after winds knocked down a local church's steeple on Thursday.

According to Reverend David Key, high winds brought down the steeple on top of the Cool Springs Baptist Church shortly after lunchtime.

Church deacon Bill Rogers said no one was at the church during the storm.

Church leaders said they'll replace the steeple, as they did when the original was damaged by lighting in 1979.
