HENDERSON, N.C. — A 14-year-old boy was shot and killed while riding his bicycle home Wednesday morning in Vance County.

WTVD reported it happened in the 1300 block of South William Street in Henderson around 3 a.m.

Police identified the victim as 14-year-old Clayton Batchelor Jr. They said he was found with a gunshot wound lying on the side of the road.

A neighbor who lives just steps away from the crime scene told ABC11 what she saw.

“He’s only 14 years old and somebody shot him like that in his head and left this boy right here,” said neighbor Nakeisha Alston.

The child’s body was taken to the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office in Chapel Hill for an autopsy.

The investigation is ongoing.
