CULPEPER, Va. — Culpeper Police said three convenience store customers came to the aid of a clerk who was attacked by a man apparently angry over the price of bottle of water.

Steven Alan Sager, 29, of Broadway is charged with felony abduction and misdemeanor counts of assault and battery, destruction of property, disorderly conduct and being drunk in public.

Police said Sager argued with store personnel about the water and then ripped the face off of the store’s ATM to demonstrate his strength.

Police said a clerk went outside to write down his license plate number and was chased back inside by an enraged Sager, who knocked her down and attacked her until three customers intervened. The clerk was not seriously hurt.
