One killed in head-on collision near Denton

DENTON, N.C. — One person died Monday morning in a head-on collision on Highway 109 South near Denton.

Around 11:15 a.m., troopers responded to an accident involving a four-door sedan and an SUV.

Maj. Larry James with Davidson County Emergency Services said a man in his 40s, who was a passenger in the sedan, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the SUV was taken to Thomasville Medical Center with critical injuries.

The two passengers inside the SUV, who were both conscious, were also taken to the hospital.

No other information about the victims has been released.

Troopers are still investigating the cause of the crash.

Both lanes of N.C. 109 remain closed while crews clean up debris.
