RURAL HALL, N.C. — A 5-year-old boy was killed in an ATV accident in Rural Hall on Sunday.

Troopers said the accident happened around 2 p.m. at 189 Brockhill Park Court near Stanleyville Drive in Rural Hall.

Officials said an adult was using an ATV while working on a fence. The 5-year-old boy kept asking to ride the ATV, but his father told the boy “not now.”

Troopers said the father stopped working, turned off the ATV and walked away. The 5-year-old boy then jumped on the ATV, turned on the switch and hit the throttle.

The ATV rolled back and crushed the boy.

Troopers said the man then put the child in a car and met an ambulance while in en route to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center.

The boy was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital.
