RALEIGH — Officials said a High Point man is a $100,000 lottery winner after buying a winning ticket Tuesday afternoon.

Lottery officials said James Douglas bought a $5 Super Lucky 7’s ticket from the Pantry Shop on West English Road and happened to win.

“I just happened to win – that’s all,” he said, according to a prepared statement.

Officials said Douglas worked for 35 years building fiberglass boats before retiring in 2006. He said he plans to pay bills and the mortgage with his winnings.

The prize comes out to $68,001 after taxes. Douglas beat odds of 1 in 816,000 to win a top prize. Officials said three $100,000 prizes remain unclaimed.
