GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Just two days into the 90-degree weather.  Factor in the humidity and it feels much hotter so how are people handling the heat?

Well, nothing says summer in Greensboro like Yum Yum's. Technically it's college territory, but families filled the small diner Thursday night for a refreshing summer treat.

"Yeah this is like the slowest part of the day right now," said Heath Hill, manager at Yum Yum's.

Yum Yum's makes 600 gallons of ice cream a week and Hill says by six they'd already sold about 100 gallons.

Ice cream is the reason CJ Shook stopped in.  He needed a place to cool down.

"Today it was just miserable," says Shook.

Across town at Latham Park, the little league teams had a whole lot of fun.

"They're having a wonderful game and actually they're winning tonight," said Regenia Ambrose, teacher at Madison Elementary.  "Its' really hot.  I came out anyway.  That's how much I love my kids."

It's only two days into the summer season, but you wouldn't know it.

"It came in with a bang, truly," said Ambrose.

One mom thought of a few places she would have rather been.

"The lake, the beach..."

Instead she rooted on her son while trying her best to keep cool, but some cool plans may have been in store after the game.

"Ice cream, yes."

A cool down is coming soon.  The peak of the heat wave is over and after Saturday temperatures should cool down to the 80's.
