WELLESLEY MILLS, Mass. — A high school English teacher gave his 2012 graduating class a reality check at their graduation ceremony by telling them they are nothing special.

“You are not special. You are not exceptional,” said David McCullough Jr. to the graduates of Wellesley High School last week. “Even if you’re one in a million, on a planet of 6.8 billion that means there are nearly 7,000 people just like you.”

McCullough Jr. is the son of the Pulitzer Prize-winning historian and a longtime English teacher at Wellesley High School.
