DAVIDSON CO., N.C. — Two parents were arrested after deputies said a 4-year-old boy shot himself in the foot with a gun from his parents’ room Monday in Davidson County.

Matthew Ross Covington, 30, and Amber Nichole Covington, 23, both of 708 Frye Bridge Road in Clemmons, were charged with violation of storage of a firearm to protect minors.

Responding officers said they found the boy with a gunshot wound to his foot. He was taken to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center for non-life-threatening injuries. It is not clear what type of gun was used.

Both suspects received $10,000 unsecured bonds and have court planned for July 23. Deputies have not released mugshots.
