ASHEBORO, N.C. — A man and woman from Asheboro have been accused of killing the woman’s former boyfriend, who was reported missing in Durham about two weeks ago.

Jessica Dawson Summey, 21, and Shaun Michael Lundy, 24, are charged with murder in the death of 31-year-old John Russell Morris, who used to live in Asheboro but moved to Durham in 2007.

Morris, who was Summey’s former boyfriend, had been reported missing in Durham on May 29 by friends who said they had last seen him on May 25, which is when deputies believe Morris traveled to Asheboro to visit Summey.

While Morris was visiting Summey, deputies said he was confronted by Summey and Lundy — her current boyfriend.

Deputies said they searched the couple’s home at 516 Mt. Sheppard Road on Wednesday, but the couple was nowhere to be found.

During the search, deputies said they found evidence of a struggle, human remains and burnt vehicle parts that appear to be from Morris’ Jeep Wrangler.

Investigators quickly learned that Summey and Lundy were in Tazwell, Va.  Deputies with the Tazewell County Sheriff’s Office arrested both suspects early Thursday morning.

Authorities are still waiting on autopsy results to confirm that the human remains are those of Morris.

Summey and Lundy are currently being held without bond in the Tazewell County Jail.  They both waived extradition during their first court appearances, deputies said.

Durham police are assisting in the investigation, which is ongoing.

Deputies said they believe Morris was involved in a relationship with Summey when he lived in Asheboro from 2004 to 2007.
