CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A 15-year-old boy is in critical condition after he was hit by a car while waiting at a bus stop Monday in Charlotte.

Brandon Peterson, a student at East Mecklenburg High School, was on the sidewalk at a bus stop when a two-vehicle crash occurred at the scene.

The driver of a Toyota Camry hit another car while attempting to change lanes, police told WSOC-TV.  The collision caused the driver of the Camry to lose control, police said.

The Camry went off the roadway and onto the sidewalk, where Peterson was hit, police said.

Peterson’s head collided with the Camry’s windshield and then hit the roadway, police said.  The victim may also have a broken leg.

Witnesses said two other teens who were standing near Peterson were able to move out of the way, but Peterson did not see the oncoming car.

Police on Tuesday are expected to announce whether or not they’ll charge the driver.

Alcohol and speed were not factors.
