RALEIGH, N.C. — Some North Carolina dentists and their patients are trying to get the attention of legislators about bills which have divided the profession over regulating companies that do back-office work for dental practices.

A group holding a news conference Tuesday in front of the Legislative Building is opposed to the bills that would place restrictions on dental management organizations, which provide administrative services for individual dental practices.

Many dentists linked to the North Carolina Dental Society support the bill because they said the state dental board needs to keep tighter reins on the companies to ensure dentists make the best decisions for their patients.

Many out-of-state companies have given money to a political organization that’s run a television ad to oppose the bills. The dental society has its own commercial.
