Lexington motorcyclist injured in head-on crash

LEXINGTON, N.C. — A Lexington motorcyclist remains in the hospital following a head-on crash with another vehicle.

Jonathan Drew Gibbs, 26, was taken to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center after the wreck, which happened around 5:30 p.m. Sunday on West Center Street Extension.

According to The-Dispatch of Lexington, Gibbs was riding his 2005 Honda motorcycle west on West Center Street Extension near Forest Hill Road when he crossed the center lines and collided head-on with a 1996 Nissan sedan.

Troopers told the paper that the motorcycle overturned upon impact, ejecting Gibbs.

Gibbs, who was reportedly in good condition as of Monday afternoon, has been charged with driving left of center and exceeding a safe speed.

Troopers said Gibbs was traveling at about 65 mph, while the speed limit in the area is 45 mph.

One of the passengers in the sedan had minor injuries, but they did not require hospital treatment.
