Man accused of snatching woman’s purse in Winston-Salem

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — A man was arrested after police said he snatched a woman’s purse in a parking lot Thursday evening in Winston-Salem.

John Emery Washington, 19, of Raleigh, is accused of forcefully taking the item around 7 p.m. at the Reynolds American parking lot at 401 N. Church St.

Police said the 51-year-old Lewisville victim was walking to her parked car at the time of the crime. She received minor injuries before the suspect fled on foot, police said.

Officers with the Winston-Salem Police Department Downtown Bicycle Patrol said they found Washington shortly later in the 1200 block of North Patterson Avenue.

Police said he was charged with common law robbery, trespassing on railroad property and resisting delaying and obstructing a government official. He received a $20,000 secured bond.
